Samia hints at major reforms
PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday said her administration is set to make major changes in laws and institutions of governance so as to enhance good governance, human rights and economic growth.
Addressing elders in Dar es Salaam, the president said her government respects freedoms and rights of the people including the right of association, media freedom and privacy.
The president spoke of fake water bills saying this must stop and that she will fire everyone who will do that but urged Tanzanians to pay proper bills at the right time.

‘Contentious union issues resolution framework ready’
MINISTER of State in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment) Selemani Jafo has said that the government is working on remaining contentious issues of the union and will soon announce a resolution framework accord.

The minister made the statement yesterday while visiting various development projects in Zanzibar, a tour in which he was accompanied by Deputy Minister Hamad Hassan Chande.
“We are working hard to resolve the pending union challenges so that we focus solely on improving the living standards of the people in the Mainland and Zanzibar,” he said.

Support to refugee communities: Due to a lack of financial resources, WFP distributed 68 percent of the minimum required kilocalories to the refugees hosted in camps in Kigoma region.
Nutrition support to vulnerable populations, however, was maintained at 100 percent. WFP is advocating for additional funding to support the provision of food assistance to the refugees. Voluntary repatriation resumed on 14 January 2021. By 31 January, voluntary repatriation stood at 1,478.
Smallholder Farmers: Under the Kigoma Joint Programme (KJP), fields are in very good condition as farmers used recommended inputs that were delivered through Digital Mobile Africa platform.
