“Something has to change,” said Thorpe, who was evacuated first to Lillooet and then again to Kelowna. Thorpe said she is overwhelmed by how the community has come together to help those in need.

Forrest Tower, a B.C. Wildfire Service spokesperson, said no one is being granted access to rescue pets, although some animal owners may have gotten access before his service secured the area.
