Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday, summoning American resilience to confront a historic confluence of crises and urging people to come together to end an uncivil war in a nation deeply divided after four tumultuous years. Declaring that democracy has prevailed, Biden took the oath at a U.S. Capitol that had been battered by an insurrectionist siege just two weeks earlier.

U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, is a co-sponsor of legislation aimed at investigating terrorism threats and preventing white supremacists from infiltrating law enforcement agencies.
The bill would create new domestic terrorism units in the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice and FBI to monitor terror groups and prosecute those involved in illegal activity. It would also require biannual reports on terror incidents, the threat posed by white supremacists and neo-Nazis, and an assessment of how extremist groups are infiltrating law enforcement agencies and armed services.
