Patrick Cooper hopes to break the Guinness World Record of swinging on a park swing for about 36 hours. The 17-year-old Napier Boys’ High School student has more personal reasons for his attempt, wanting to raise money for Starship Hospital and is currently accepting sponsorship. “I have a lot of respect for the staff and volunteers and for the work they do for their patients. My brother was born with a cleft palate and the surgery they perform is truly life-changing,” Cooper said. ”Some people have said they’ll give me a few dollars for every hour I’m on the swing – the model is similar to the 40-hour Famine.”
