Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan says the region’s residents were remaining optimistic for a Christmas out of lockdown after Monday’s announcement of 15 new COVID cases from more than 38,000 tests.
“We’re optimistic for Wednesday’s announcement,” Mr Regan said.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian has confirmed on Monday New South Wales recorded 15 locally acquired cases of the coronavirus overnight – all of which are directly linked to the Avalon cluster.
In a bid to control the outbreak, Ms Berejiklian announced on Sunday the northern regions would be in strict lockdown until Wednesday.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says if the coronavirus outbreak on the Northern Beaches continues without having a broader impact, it’s effect on Australia’s economy would be “very minimal”.
