Karachi [Pakistan], January 19 (ANI): The annual bilateral summit of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has been delayed due to a serious disagreement between Pakistan and China over the Belt and Road Initiative.
The last meeting of CPEC s principal decision-making body, the Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) was held in November 2019. The 10th JCC meeting was scheduled in early 2020, but remains postponed, writes Adnan Aamir for Nikkei Asia.
In the past, the JCC meetings have always been held on time and China has agreed to Islamabad s requests most of the time. However, the delay of this meeting is leading experts to believe that the CPEC is derailing.

Thar Coal Power Generation Saved Pakistan $78 Million: Murad Ali Shah
Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has said that the use of indigenous Thar Coal, instead of imported coal, for power generation, has resulted in a saving of $78 million foreign exchange for the country.
“By procession toward `Economy of scale’ Thar coal prices are reducing from initial $58 per ton to $32 per ton and with further expansion, the prices will reduce even further,” said the CM while presiding over a Thar Coal and Energy Board (TCEB) meeting at the CM House, Karachi.
By further expansion to 15 mtpa or more, Thar coal prices will further reduce by 50 percent, and Thar Coal Tariff (at around 5.5 US cent per kWh) will be the cheapest baseload in the country, he informed.

The board meeting okayed the launch of an online SEZ Management Information System.
The meeting was apprised that there were 19 SEZs notified in the country.
