“These figures are very concerning.
“This issue has the potential to seriously impact on students in higher education.
“Preventing attendance at classes, work placements, and even examinations could seriously hamper an individual’s chances of successful completion of their course.
“The negative impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the local economy has also disproportionately impacted on the types of jobs that students tend to work in while studying, thereby creating an even higher risk of period poverty.
“This is further amplified by the fact that students who would have been reliant on products being made available by schools, colleges and universities will have lost this access during the past year due to institutional closures.

Girls education one of the smartest post-Covid investments, says PM

Boris Johnson is to urge the international community to back plans to get 40m more girls in developing countries in school, calling it one of the smartest investments we can make .
And he will take part in a video link-up with schoolchildren in Kenya to promote access to education for girls.
This is a focus of the UK s presidency of the G7 group of leading economies.
But aid agencies have warned of the negative impact of the UK s international aid cuts.

One in four women are subjected to regular sexual harassment when they go running, while 60% have suffered physical or verbal abuse at some point during a run.
That’s according to a survey of more than 2,000 amateur female runners from across the UK, conducted by Runner’s World and Women’s Health.
To be honest, I’m surprised the figure isn’t higher.
I’ve been harassed while running more times than I can recall, but a couple of occasions stand out – like the time a group of grown men in a van slowed to match my pace, just so they could shout comments about my arse and ask if I enjoyed anal sex. Then there was my run when a boy of only 13 or 14 followed me on his bike, calling me all names under the sun – bitch, c nt, bitch again – while his mates fell about in hysterics. They learn this behaviour young.
Women s Health, 60 per cent of women said they had been harassed when running, 25 per cent reported being regularly subjected to sexist comments or unwanted sexual advances and six per cent said they had felt threatened to such an extent by harassment while running that they feared for their lives.
Although she says she s not experienced as much harassment as some of her running friends, as we talk, Katy, a diagnostic radiographer who works for the NHS, mentions another terrifying incident that occurred on the run.
