This updated blog sets out our latest understanding of where things stand for local governments based on a recent conversation with Governor Jay Inslee’s office clarifying some questions related to daily government operations and conducting open public meetings during the COVID-19 emergency.

Members of the Washington State University Board of Regents will meet publicly during a retreat on Jan. 22.
In accordance with state and local health guidance, the meeting will be conducted remotely via Zoom. Members of the public can watch the proceedings live on YouTube and can request to speak during the public comment period of the meeting by registering online.
The meeting is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. until noon. Regents will begin the meeting by going into executive session for approximately 30 minutes before reconvening publicly for the rest of the agenda.

Jan. 14, 2020: Gov. Phil Murphy during the State of the State address one year ago
Gov. Phil Murphy is set to make a routine speech Tuesday to mark what was anything but a routine year.
This year’s State of the State address comes as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to exact a deadly toll and as the state’s economy is anything but certain. In the speech, Murphy is expected to talk largely about the prospects for the economy in the coming year. The address will also serve as the backdrop for a personal Murphy milestone: his reelection bid.
