Free State lawyer Sebabatso Jeremiah Radebe was sentenced to six years in jail for the theft of R261 000 meant for clients who appointed him as their executor.
The clients reported the case to the police in 2014 when he failed to transfer the money to them.
In addition to the six years, the court also sentenced him to a year for contravening the Administration of Estate Act, suspended for five years.
The Harrismith Magistrate s Court on Friday sentenced lawyer Sebabatso Jeremiah Radebe to six years in jail for stealing R261 000 from his clients.
Free State police said the theft happened in 2014 after Radebe was appointed as the executor of an estate by the beneficiaries.

A 39-year-old information technology (IT) executive at mobile operator Cell C has been arrested for his alleged role in fraud and corruption involving about R130m.
Adriraan Pillay was arrested by the Hawks’ serious commercial crime investigation team in Germiston on Friday after a warrant of arrest was issued. He has been charged with fraud and corruption regarding an alleged tender scam.

The victim, a chemistry student at the University of Free State, managed to escape the house where he was being kept, and reported the matter to police.

The accused – Moleboheng Precious Mohasoa, 29, a former police official attached to the Protection and Security Services, along with Innocent Paki Kompi, 31, and Napo Moses Mahasoa, 33 – were convicted in the Bloemfontein Regional Court on Thursday.
They were found guilty of coercing a student into assisting them to manufacture drugs in November 2016, said Hawks spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo.

They were found guilty of coercing a student into assisting them to manufacture drugs in November 2016, said Hawks spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo. The victim, a chemistry student at the University of Free State, later reported the matter to the police after he escaped from the house where he had been kept against his will, said Singo.
