ATTLEBORO â Authorities have not revealed many details about a deadly stabbing in September but one thing is certain: two young lives were destroyed.
Kayla Cantu, 20, a Weymouth woman with roots in Attleboro, sits in a jail cell charged with murdering 28-year-old Kimberly Duphily of Attleboro.
Cantu has pleaded innocent in Attleboro District Court and is being held in jail without bail.
Prosecutors are expected to seek a grand jury indictment to move the case to superior court for trial.
Police reports in the case have been impounded but prosecutors have said the Sept. 11 fatal stabbing occurred during a fight over stolen money and drugs.

DEC. 21 â With the effects of the post-Thanksgiving surge in COVID-19 cases still rippling outward and another round of holiday gatherings expected through the end of the month, Gov. Charlie Baker is reviewing what options he has for imposing new restrictions meant to slow the spread of the virus.
The governor said Monday that he expects to say more on the topic soon and that Massachusetts simply cannot afford to have its coronavirus caseload increase as it did in the days and weeks immediately after Thanksgiving. Baker said he was basically begging everyone to stay within their immediate household for Christmas and New Year s to keep the state s hospitals from being overwhelmed.
ATTLEBORO â Efforts to bring a free Stop the Spread coronavirus test site to Attleboro have been rejected by Gov. Charlie Bakerâs administration.
Kate Reilly, spokeswoman for Bakerâs Coronavirus Command Center replied to a Sun Chronicle inquiry on the issue Friday morning.
âThe administration does not have plans at this time for a Stop the Spread site in Attleboro,â she said in an emailed statement.
Apparently, the administration believes there are enough testing sites statewide.
She noted that âthere are over 350 testing sites in (Massachusetts) including free, state-run testing sites in 23 communities.â
However, the closest free state-run sites to Attleboro are at least a 30- to 45-minute drive away in Brockton and Fall River respectively for persons who have cars.
