Jan. 18 Taking ownership of the problems facing society today is crucial in honoring and building upon the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. s legacy, Stanislaus County NAACP president Wendy Byrd said Monday.
Speaking at an interfaith commemoration event hosted virtually by the Revival Center in Modesto to honor the late civil rights leader, Byrd emphasized that King did his job, and he did a good job, but that it now falls to everyone in the community to carry on the work he set in motion. King was instrumental in the civil rights movement, gaining national and international recognition for his emphasis on nonviolence and civil disobedience.

President-elect Joe Biden s social media following has surged ahead of his inauguration this week, while Donald Trump s accounts remained silent.
Data suggests followers and likes on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram grew significantly over the last week, ahead of Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris being sworn into office on January 20 outside the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
Between January 11 and January 18, the incoming U.S. commander-in-chief s personal Twitter account attracted more than 833,000 followers, while his Instagram page picked up over 288,000, according to statistics by analytics firm Social Blade.

President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday selected Dr. Rachel Levine as his nominee for assistant health secretary.
Levine is a physician who is currently serving as Pennsylvania s secretary of health.
If confirmed, Levine would be the first transgender person confirmed by the US Senate.
