WASHINGTON – As President Joe Biden sat behind the Resolute Desk for the first time as president, some physical differences – from the symbolic choices in decor to simply wearing a mask – were stark compared with that of his predecessor.
Biden, donning a black face mask, sat to sign some executive orders Wednesday night. One order requires masks and social distancing on federal property.
Former President Donald Trump rarely wore a face covering, especially while at the White House, in the Oval Office and behind the Resolute Desk.
He even infamously and – pointedly – removed his mask as soon as he returned from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after he was treated for COVID-19 in October.
Jennifer Lopez will perform as well.
“I have been to the White House. I’ve been in the Oval Office,”
Ryan Seacrest recalled on-air ahead of the historic day. “I was there when
Barack Obama was president, and I was there to go to the Children’s Hospital with [First Lady]
Michelle Obama. … One of the aides said, ‘Do you want to go check out the Oval Office before the President comes down the elevator?’ And I was like, ‘Uh, yeah!’”

Whitehouse.gov relaunches to reflect Biden presidency

The whitehouse.gov website has been updated to reflect Joe Biden is the new President. It now also includes a Spanish language version of the White House’s communications.
La Casa Blanca’s Spanish language communications went dark in 2017 when Trump took office.
Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush both maintained a Spanish version of the White House website.

While skipping the traditional Inauguration Day transfer of power ceremonies and following another tradition, on Wednesday, President Donald Trump ended office with a note for his successor President-elect Joe Biden in the Oval Office.
According to The Post, a source that is familiar with the matter, on Wednesday at around 8 a.m., despite not entering the Oval Office, Trump ended his office with a note for his then-rival and now successor Joe Biden, as an aide left the note on the Resolute desk before departing the executive residence at around 8 a.m.
The tradition why Trump ended his office with a note left for Biden, started in 1989 when at that time outgoing President Reagan, left a message on the famous desk for that time President-elect George H.W. Bush telling him that he was praying for his success, NY Post reported.
