Maryland Senate Passes Bill to Ban Police from Denying Firearms to Medical Marijuana Users

Alabama House Committee Passes Bill to End Federal Gun Control Enforcement

Alabama House Committee Passes Bill to End Federal Gun Control Enforcement MONTGOMERY, Ala. (March 11, 2021) – Yesterday, an Alabama House committee passed a bill that would set the foundation to end enforcement of federal gun control; past, present and future. Passage into law would represent a major step toward ending federal acts that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms within the state. Rep. James Hanes (R), along with five Republican cosponsors, introduced House Bill 157 (HB157) on Feb. 2. Titled the Alabama Second Amendment Preservation Act, the legislation would ban any public officer or employee of the state from enforcing or attempting to enforce any past, present, or future federal acts, laws, orders, rules, or regulations ” which infringe on the people’s right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.”

A House committee on Wednesday approved a bill that would attempt to nullify all federal gun laws in Alabama and ban state law enforcement from enforcing them. The House Public Safety and Homeland Security approved the bill, sponsored by Rep. Tommy Hanes, R-Bryant, on a voice vote. The measure is one of several attempts by Republican legislators around the country to block attempts at gun control by the Democratic-controlled Congress. But it goes further than most by trying to stop the enforcement of current federal gun laws, including those  regulating automatic weapons.

Oklahoma Senate Approves 2A Sanctuary Bill

AP Photo/Rick Bowmer Growing up in Oklahoma, you learn pretty quickly about the rivalry between the Sooner State and its southern neighbor. Texas may be bigger, and it may get more publicity, but doggone it anything that the Lone Star State can do Oklahoma can do better (or at least as well). So, when Texas governor Greg Abbott declared that one of his top legislative priorities this year was to turn the state into a Second Amendment Sanctuary, I had a feeling that Oklahoma legislators might try to get there first. To be fair, the first Second Amendment Sanctuary bill was introduced in Oklahoma last November, long before Abbott said anything about making Texas a 2A Sanctuary, but I’m sure that Abbott’s endorsement of the idea didn’t hurt the cause in Oklahoma. In fact, it may have helped speed things along, because on Tuesday the Oklahoma State Senate overwhelmingly approved SB 631 by a vote of 38-8.
