Exile Tibetans donate 5 Crore rupees to PM-Cares Fund

DHARAMSHALA, May 14: Exile Tibetans spread across the globe have donated around 5 Crore INR to India’s relief efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic through the PM-Cares Fund, the President Dr. Lobsang Sangay of the exile Tibetan government known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration said Wednesday.
The donation was collected from Tibetan communities around the world including North America, Europe and those in India, Nepal and Bhutan. Tibetans in the US donated USD 222,456 (1,63,11,708 INR) while Tibetans in Canada donated a sum of CAD 90,543 (54,66,352 INR) according to reports from the Office of Tibet (OOT) in Washington DC. Along with the donation, Representative Tsering sent a letter to Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu and High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria expressing solidarity and prayers on behalf of the Tibetans living in North America and hoped for a speedy recovery from this unprecedented cha

The PM CARES (Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations) Fund has sanctioned the procurement of 1.5 lakh units of the Oxycare system developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at a cost of ₹322.5 crore. Separately, naval ships continued to bring emergency supplies from friendly foreign countries to India.
The Oxycare system was developed by Defence Bio-Engineering and Electro Medical Laboratory (DEBEL), Bengaluru, of the DRDO for soldiers posted at extreme high-altitude areas.

“The Oxycare system delivers supplemental oxygen based on the SpO2 levels and prevents the person from sinking into a state of hypoxia, which can be fatal,” a DRDO statement said on Wednesday. Under this sanction, 1,00,000 manual and 50,000 automatic Oxycare systems along with Non-Rebreather Masks (NRBM) are being procured, it stated.
