Hospitalization surge forces healthcare leaders to move patients and pivot employees

Hospitalization surge forces healthcare leaders to move patients and pivot employees Unmute PEORIA (WEEK) - Local intensive care bed availability is at its lowest point so far this year, and hospital leaders say it is forcing them to send patients elsewhere. As of Tuesday morning, patients filled 97% of ICU beds at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, and OSF chief operating officer Dr. Michael Cruz says five to six of their hospitals are still above 90% capacity. As a result, hospitals are forced to move patients and pivot employee responsibilities. Sometimes we have to move patients who might ve originated from one town - who want to stay in town and normally would - but we can t because there is no one or no place for them to be cared for there, Cruz said. Is it what a patient would prefer? No. And yet, in these circumstances, that s what were left dealing with at this time.

Update: Hospital Capacity In Culver City Area

Reply (Shutterstock) CULVER CITY, CA The U.S. has reached what health officials have called a complicated stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, with cases and hospitalizations increasing in some parts of the country despite the quickening pace of vaccination. Nationally, the seven-day average of new cases, which had fallen steadily from its peak of nearly 250,000 in January, is rising again, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Over the week ending April 14, new cases averaged 69,577 8.1 percent higher than during the previous week, when the seven-day average stood at 64,340. More than 31.2 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported since the pandemic began.
