Dartmouth Community Rallies Together to Clean Up Cornell Pond

When I heard through the local grapevine that volunteers were needed to rake leaves, remove fallen sticks and debris, pick up trash and restore the playground area, I was all in. Although I don t reside in Dartmouth, I still value the SouthCoast area and will always lend a hand whenever I can.
Alongside me were Dartmouth residents, Westport Troop 2019, Gloria Bancroft (Dartmouth Town Finance Committee/Soil Conservationist), and the Cornell Pond Advisory Committee.

The overgrowth along the river was suffocating vital plants. Eco-life was cut back and removed from the area and all the broken glass from beer bottles and plastic nip containers were tossed in a garbage bag. Volunteers worked feverishly for two hours to clear out the playground area and remove years of leaves and mulch that was killing the grassy area.
Dartmouth Officers Go Above and Beyond at Vaccination Site
It s always nice to hear about our SouthCoast neighbors doing good for others, especially amidst all of the turmoil and chaos the last year has brought us. The Dartmouth Police Department is getting some much-deserved recognition after one woman recently shared her story of an officer going beyond the line of duty to help her at a local vaccination site.
Sandy Friend shared the story in the Town of Westport, Ma. WE THE PEOPLE Facebook group Wednesday morning, writing that she had gone to the COVID vaccination site at the old Dartmouth Circuit City to get her second shot earlier that morning and had encountered a kind, wonderful young man from the Dartmouth Police Department.
Seven Things I Already Love as a SouthCoast Newcomer
It can sometimes be a little overwhelming taking in all the sights and sounds of a new place when you move. Luckily, life is finally starting to settle down for my boyfriend and I, and now that we ve been living in Massachusetts for almost a month, we re finally getting to experience more of the SouthCoast.
I was born and raised just north of Seattle, Washington, but spent the past two years of my life in Central New York, and believe it or not, so far, the SouthCoast reminds me a lot of both places. While there is still so much for Evan and I to explore, I thought I d give you an update about some of my favorite parts of the SouthCoast, in hopes that you can then share some of yours.
The state has announced plans for a major upgrade to the Freetown State Forest wading pool and we are excited for the change.
Backlash to the news that the Freetown wading pool would be closed this summer as a $700,000 renovation took place at the popular facility was swift and harsh. But as a parent of two young kids, I m all for it.
Major upgrades to the facility haven t happened in about a decade, so now is definitely the time for the cleaner, safer change to a more modern spray deck.
And it looks like they have a nice one planned.
