Publix is among several retailers that are no longer requiring those who have been fully vaccinated from coronavirus to wear masks in their stores.
The Lakeland-based chain cited guidance issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday that says anyone who has received the coronavirus vaccine can safely resume normal activities, indoors or outdoors, without masks or social distancing.
On Friday, Publix issued a statement that said, Publix will no longer require fully vaccinated associates or customers to wear face coverings, unless required by a state or local order or ordinance, beginning May 15.

Several retailers including Publix, Target, Winn-Dixie, Walmart, Trader Joe s and Starbucks are loosening requirements, using recent CDC guidance in their decisions.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Starting now, fully vaccinated shoppers and employees can be in Winn-Dixie stores without a mask.

Atlanta s favorite fast-food stop Slutty Vegan is looking to rival Chick-fil-a and Popeye s with a totally plant-based pop-up chicken menu. The vegan restaurant chain is partnering with Incogmeato – a subsidiary brand of MorningStar Farms – to debut a limited-time vegan fried chicken menu. The celebrity restauranteur and Slutty Vegan founder Pinky Cole plans to host this special menu on May 19, showcasing a full line of plant-based chicken options for just one day at the Old Fourth Ward location.
The special menu brings three exciting spins on classic fried chicken dishes including an Incogmeato Side Chik Tender Basket, an Incogmeato Mutha Clucker Chik’n Tender Sandwich, and an Incogmeato Chik’n Tender Tac-Heaux. Slutty Vegan’s mission is to encourage people to try the Incogmeato substitute, which claims to taste and tear just like conventional fried chicken.

Friday was the first day many people were ditching the mask, but businesses are still considering if they want to keep mandates in place.
“We started to reevaluate even before the announcement yesterday, mainly as we were at a point where our staff has been fully vaccinated,” said Kelly Pickard, Owner of Alewife in Jacksonville’s Riverside neighborhood.
The tasting room has four employees all of whom have gotten the shot, Pickard too.
But, she said, she’s keeping the mask on for now.
“It’s still a comfort level, a respect level. I mean, this is a pretty quick announcement. I don’t think people were necessarily expecting it,” she Pickard said.
