Winn-Dixie, Harveys Supermarkets suspend use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine at all pharmacy locations

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie pharmacy locations, has immediately suspended the administration of the Janssen one-dose vaccines.
These are also known as the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
This comes following an FDA and CDC recommended “pause” of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to investigate reports of potentially dangerous blood clots.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Across Central Florida, officials at COVID-19 vaccination sites scrambled to adjust operations as federal health authorities called for a temporary pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson formula.
The move comes as six women, ages 18 to 48, reported potentially dangerous blood clots after receiving the single-dose J&J vaccine. One woman died and a second woman in Nebraska has been hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

More than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered in the U.S., the vast majority with no or mild side effects.
Winn-Dixie Suspending Use of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine
With the U.S. recommending a pause in giving out the single-dose Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, Winn-Dixie Stores across Alabama says it will join others in suspending using the vaccine at its free clinics.
In a joint statement, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said it was investigating clots in six women in the days after vaccination, in combination with reduced platelet counts. More than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered in the U.S.
Winn-Dixie had announced last month that it was expanding its vaccine program to include more stores and to begin offering the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine.
Last BI-LO Grocery Stores Closing in Charlotte Area & Across Carolinas & Georgia

The last BI-LO stores in the Charlotte area will close on Sunday.
One is on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road in Northwest Charlotte.
The others are in Monroe and Stanley.
Parent company Southeastern Grocers decided to stop operating stores under the BI-LO brand.
All BI-LO’s across the Carolinas & Georgia will close by April 18th.
The BI-LO chain started in Greenville, South Carolina and has been around for 60 years.
Food Lion and other grocery stores bought some former BI-LO locations, but others will permanently close.
