S. Oregon Coast s Coos History Museum Hosts Writing Contest; Opens Doors

(Coos Bay, Oregon) – On the southern Oregon coast, you ve got a shot at becoming an award-winning writer - no matter where you live.
The Coos History Museum in partnership with Southwestern Oregon Community College and the Coos Bay Public Library, recently announced the 6th annual, 2021 Writer’s Day event and writing contest. The Writer’s Day event is planned for October 16, 2021, and you can be part of this online event. You simply have to save the date and register online or at the museum on the south Oregon coast.

Three students from Treasure Valley Community College, Hannah Berger, Maria Montes and Chase Wilcox, were among 45 students named to All-Oregon Academic Team, according to a news release from Oregon Community College Association. Berger was also named a New Century Workforce Scholar.
These outstanding student scholars are selected for their academic excellence, leadership and community service, and are all members of Phi Theta Kappa, the nationâs community college honor society.
âIâd like to congratulate these outstanding student scholars for their achievements and the completion of their community college degrees,â said association Executive Director Cam Preus in the release. âAs some of our very best and brightest, these students represent hope for a strong future in Oregon.â

Lane Community College s Board of Education has four seats up for reelection this May, with a total of five candidates vying for two contested seats.
Zone 1, which primarily represents western Lane County including west Eugene and Florence, and Zone 5, which makes up downtown and south Eugene, are both contested. Whoever is elected to Zone 1 will win a four-year term on the board. The winner of Zone 5 will serve for a two-year unexpired term.
The seats for Zone 3 and Zone 4 are uncontested with incumbent Mike Eyster for Zone 3 and newcomer Austin Folnagy for Zone 4.Each seat has a four-year term.
All of the candidates for the contested board seats are newcomers and shared their reasons for running, backgrounds and goals for the college in interviews with The Register-Guard.
