Marvin Kremin’s mail delivery career didn’t get off to a “good start” back in September of 1990. But it ended with lots of memories and friendships.
“I remember the first morning I was late for work,” Kremin said while sitting inside his U.S. Postal Service vehicle outside an apartment building on Jewett Street on Tuesday.
He laughed before saying, “I thought, ‘this isn’t a good start.’ I kind of got that squared around.”

Isatu Shirek has stories to tell. And she’s getting that opportunity at Pioneer Public Television in Granite Falls.
Shirek is a sophomore communication Studies: broadcast and digital media major at Southwest Minnesota State University who recently completed a documentary entitled “Teaming Up for Change: Dan Kates + Redwood Falls Police Department.” The documentary can be viewed on Pioneer’s YouTube channel, and made its broadcast debut on Dec. 17, as part of the “Compass” program. It is available for viewing on the program’s website: www.pioneer.org/compass.
The documentary focuses on Redwood Falls resident Dan Kates, who wanted to organize a march following the May 25, 2020 death of George Floyd. It tells the story of how Kates worked with Redwood Falls Police Chief Jason Cotner for that peaceful march, and how Kates, with Cotner’s encouragement, would later become a member of the city’s Police Commission.

That’s true for people who grew up far from Worthington, as well as folks come from its backyard. A number of Sanford Worthington employees, in fact, were raised in Worthington or nearby communities, then subsequently made the decision to return home for a career with Sanford.

MARSHALL Â Minnesota state colleges and universities have had to make significant changes to make campuses and classrooms safer during the COVID-19 pandemic. But while many of those efforts have been successful, colleges and universities are facing financial challenges like a loss of revenue and increased costs.
“We have our work cut out for us in that regard over the next two years,” said Devinder Malhotra, Minnesota State chancellor.
