CARBONDALE, Ill. – Coming off of a season in which Southern had won nine-straight and 15 of its last 16 games before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Southern Illinois University softball team has released its 2021 regular season schedule Thursday.
Head coach
Kerri Blaylock returns for her 22nd season at the helm of the Saluki softball program. Southern went 15-6 a year ago and were leading the Missouri Valley Conference in fielding percentage (.977), fewest runs allowed (66) and were second in earned run average (2.77) before the season was brought to a halt.
“I feel like our schedule definitely challenges us,” Blaylock said. “It also gives us an opportunity to play a bunch of people and tinker with our lineup. ROCKFORD Winnebago County Public Defender David J. Doll will retire on April 23 after serving four years in the role and nearly three decades in the public defender’s office.
Doll primarily works with people connected to sexually violent offenses and supported them as they worked toward rehabilitation, according to Winnebago County Trial Court Administrator Tom Jakeway.
Doll also represented individuals with a history or connection to being trafficked.
“This county has been extremely fortunate to have the benefit of Dave Doll’s service,” said 17th Circuit Court Chief Judge Eugene Doherty said in a news release. “He has ensured that competent and faithful representation was provided by his office as required by our constitutional guarantees. More than that, though, he has been a creative and cooperative partner in creating efficiencies in our system. He really has made his mark.”

FREEPORT Cal Wescott returned to his hometown roots in Freeport 30 years ago by purchasing a locally owned furniture business, and he is now helping second- and third-generation customers find the right fit” with their furniture and appliance needs at Rite-Way Furniture & Appliance in downtown.
After working in corporate retail for 14 years, Wescott said he longed to own his own business. The opportunity arose for him to purchase Rite-Way and move from the Chicago suburbs to return to his roots and part of a community that he loves.
“I was a manager working for others, and I decided I wanted to do something for myself and be part of the community I grew up in,” Wescott said. “Having my own business means something to me. It’s a slower-paced lifestyle, but I am part of a friendly community, and the move back 30 years ago answered the call for me.”
