At the Hardin County FairÂgrounds in Glendale on WedÂnesÂday evening, a large crowd gathered on a set of bleachers to witness what was billed as âThe Fastest Pigs in the South.â Laid out before the audience was a small fenced-in race track and a trailer that contained the contenders in an event known simply as a Pig Race.
Throughout the course of the race event, groups of pigs lined up at the start of the track, racing for a bowl of food that met them at the end. Before each race, announcer Luddie Ackerman called on children in the audience to place their bets on which pig would win. Those who bet on the winning pig were given a free cup of food to feed animals in the All American Petting Zoo, which was adjacent to the race track.
