Dr. W. Franklin Evans says he is trying his best to balance his time between presidential duties, introducing himself to the campus life and getting to know leaders in the Wheeling area during his first days on the job as president of West Liberty University. Evans became West Liberty’s 37th president and the first president at the 183-year old institution to be a person of color when his term began January 1. The former president of Vorhees College spoke with MetroNews and said he has stayed busy trying to get a better lay of the land and become more comfortable.

Monte Stokes joins Pacific Harbor Line as Chief Engineer. Pacific Harbor Line ) has appointed Monte Stokes as chief engineer of the 75-mile short-line railroad serving the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. Effective February 1, he succeeded Robert Giannoble, who retired effective December 31, 2020. Stokes joins PHL from the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak), where he had been deputy division engineer at Washington, D.C., assistant division engineer at Baltimore, Md., and senior engineer-track, Philadelphia, since 2017. He previously held various engineering posts with CSX Transportation from 2011 to 2017, advancing from management trainee to roadmaster II at Cincinnati, Ohio. From 2007 to 2010, he was a construction engineer at CH2M HILL Inc., Atlanta, Ga. and project engineer for Moreland Altobelli at Norcross, Ga., from 2005 to 2007.

Elmer Polite Brentwood-based LifePoint Health has named Elmer Polite CFO of its Eastern Division of hospitals. Polite (pictured) will oversee financial operations for 26 hospital campuses located in Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Polite brings more than a decade of financial and operational leadership to LifePoint. Prior to joining LifePoint, Polite served as the chief financial executive of the Midlands market for Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina. Before Prisma Health, he held positions as the system chief financial officer and chief staffing officer of HCA’s Macon market, and also as the CFO of the Georgia market for Community Health Systems.

USATF Board elects new officers, welcomes new board members

Norine Richardson was elected as the Youth Representative.   Athletes increased their representation on the board to seven athletes and an alternate. Athletes returning to the board include two-time Olympian Wallace Spearmon, 2013 World Athletics 100mH silver medalist Ryan Wilson, NACAC U23 long jump silver medalist Kendall Spencer and Rio Olympic gold medalist Michelle Carter.  Joining them in service on the board is Nicole Leach, a former 400m hurdler and 2014 USATF Indoor Champion in the mile and 3,000m, Will Leer as the AAC Alternate.  In line with recent changes to USATF’s governance , Amy Begley, 2008 Beijing Olympian, and Allen Johnson, four-time Olympian and gold medalist in the 110m hurdles, join the board as 10 year + athlete representatives.
