Several local artistes have thrown their support behind the “end gender-based violence” movement that has swept the nation after the body of 23-year-old Andrea Bharatt was discovered in Aripo.
Among those stepping out were Machel Montano, Ravi Ravi B Bissambhar, Seumas Azaryah Keelan, Kees Dieffenthaller, Maha Productions, and several East Indian entertainers.
Speaking with Sunday Newsday, Ravi B who recently collaborated with Montano and Azaryah on the song Precious Angel, said he hoped the unity spawned from the tragic incident does not wither away.

THE atmosphere inside the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA) on February 6 defied the reality that Carnival 2021 celebrations had been cancelled.
All the elements identified with “the greatest show on earth” were on parade. Veterans and youths, representing the steelbands – CAL Skiffle and Skiffle Protégés – horn and rhythm sections, calypso, soca, chutney soca, sailors, gorillas and Indian mas, all characterised the moment.
The blue devils were prevented from making a stage appearance out of concern that their powder would stain the floor. Kaisoca moko jumbies towered at the entrance of the venue to welcome guests for the three-hour-long concert, Tempo in San Fernando.

SAN Fernando West MP and Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi said everything is “right on track” at secondary schools in his constituency as face-to-face classes resumed for students due to sit exams.
On Monday, he visited several schools, including the San Fernando Government Secondary School (ModSec), Naparima College, ASJA Girls’ Secondary School and Presentation College, San Fernando.

THREE southerners swept the Miss World Trinidad and Tobago 2021 leg of the competition on Sunday night by taking the top three spots.
Jeanine Brandt, parading as Miss Palmiste, was crowned by 2019 winner Tya Jane Ramey at the very intense competition, held at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts, San Fernando.
Two other southern delegates, Manisha Moonilal, representing Marabella, and Elisheva Phillips, Miss San Fernando, were the first and second runners-up respectively. If for some reason Brandt is unable to fulfil her duties, Moonilal will step in and continue the reign.
Carnival Tempo coming in San Fernando

ONE southern steelband plans to maximise the time slot usually reserved on the Carnival calendar for the Calypso Fiesta show to stage an event targeting local and international audiences.
CAL Skiffle Steel Orchestra will create an alternative event to help ease the Carnival tabanca and reconnect nationals and the diaspora with their favourite artistes via a virtual space.
Calypso Fiesta, the annual calypso picnic where thousands would have gathered to hear and critique the cream of the calypso crop, from among whom finalists would have been chosen for the Calypso Monarch, was scheduled for February 6 at Skinner Park, San Fernando.
