MORE than 7,000 noise complaints were made to Southend Airport over the course of a year from 630 households. The annual report into the airport from March 2019 to February 2020 showed that a single resident made 550 complaints about the noise levels - with 20 addresses making up 50 per cent. The airport said 6,711 of the 7,005 complaints related to aircrafts flying in and out of Southend, and that 99.8 per cent of these – 6,695 – were related to aircraft that were found to have been operating legitimately, within the airport’s agreed control framework. The report also highlighted that since the beginning of cargo flights in October 2019 by a logistics operator – believed to be Amazon – it was the subject of 80 per cent of complaints.
