South Portland hires new school superintendent

A longtime teacher and administrator who founded an education consulting organization in Philadelphia has been hired as South Portland’s next superintendent of schools.

Timothy M. Matheney will succeed outgoing Superintendent Ken Kunin effective July 1. Matheney is the president of the Spire Leadership Group, which he founded in 2017, according to his LinkedIn page.
Members of the South Portland Board of Education announced the hire in a statement Thursday night. His appointment comes after a national search to find a replacement for Kunin. Over a dozen candidates applied for the post.

Bernard Hvozdovic Jr., the manager of South Brunswick Township, has been named the new administrator of Princeton. He will begin his new job on or about May 3.
Hvozdovic, a Kingston resident and graduate of South Brunswick High School, has served as the manager for South Brunswick since 2011. Previously, he worked as a lawyer, running his own law firm.
“Princeton has been my second home for over 40 years, as I have lived just over the border in South Brunswick,” Hvozdovic said in a written statement. “This will be an exciting and challenging time for Princeton as we begin to emerge from the pandemic. The residents and the business community have struggled over the last year. I am passionate about municipal government and very much look forward to working with Mayor Freda and Council. Together, we can address the adaptive challenges ahead as we look to shape the future of Princeton post-pandemic.”

SOUTHEASTERN NC Vaccinations continue moving at a steady pace in the state. More than 3 million total shots have been given, and the state’s positivity rate has now fallen below the 5% mark, tracking at 3.7%.
Gov. Cooper announced he will open the vaccination queue on Wednesday, March 17, to people with high-risk health conditions and those who live in congregate settings in Group 4.
The rest of Group 4 frontline essential workers will open on April 7.
As well, more vaccine providers have opened in North Carolina, including CVS pharmacies.
