The district said closures will be postponed or changed based on storm conditions. Boat lock closures are as follow; S-310 Boat Lock in Clewiston - Closing at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 5. S-193 Boat Lock on Lake Okeechobee s North Shore - Closing at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 5.

To mitigate against flooding, the district was working to bring the water level down in canals in coordination with local drainage districts. The work was already underway, explained Randy Smith, given this week’s relentless rainfall. “So, our flood control system has already been working pretty hard trying to push a lot of the storm water out into the ocean to lower the water in the canals in anticipation of potentially heavy rainfall from Elsa,” Smith said.
