Maine hospitals get good grades in latest Leapfrog ratings

By Staff The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit watchdog group that monitors the quality of U.S. health care, is out with its latest grades for hospital safety and Maine hospitals are again near the top of the class. Nine of 16 evaluated hospitals in the state received an “A,” and Maine ranked No. 3 in the U.S. for the highest percentage of facilities receiving the top grade. The A list comprises: Cary Medical Center, Caribou; Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston; Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington; Maine Medical Center, Portland; Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick; Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital, Presque Isle; Northern Light Inland Hospital, Waterville; Pen Bay Medical Center, Rockport; and Southern Maine Healthcare, Biddeford.

Northern Light began offering vaccinations without an appointment on Wednesday at its clinic at the Portland Expo. The health care provider is also considering closing its mass vaccination site in Bangor at the end of May amid a decline in appointment bookings.
