2023: INEC creates 924 new polling units in Ondo

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 7 May 2021 The Ondo State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday said it had created more polling units across the 18 local government areas of the state ahead of the 2023 general election. The commission specifically said it had created additional 924 polling units which had increased the polling units in the states to 3,933. The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Rufus Akeju, said this at a stakeholder meeting for the implementation of the expansion of voter access to polling units in Nigeria. The REC explained that the commission arrived at the figure by converting existing voting points that meet the minimum threshold of 750 or a maximum of 1,000 voters per polling unit.

INEC The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has created additional 1,235 polling units in Imo, bringing the total number of polling units in the state to 4,758. x The state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Francis Ezeonu made this known while briefing newsmen on the commission’s efforts to expand voter access to polling units on Wednesday in Owerri. Ezeonu said over the years, there had been attempts by the commission to create additional polling units to cater to the interest of new settlements and areas with unmanageable voter population. He explained that in 2011, the commission opted to create voting points and voting settlements to address the issue of overcrowding during the election and new settlements not served by existing polling units.
