Louisiana city and state governments are planning for the next phases of coronavirus vaccine distribution for a broader population, a shift that is expected to add larger mass vaccination sites to the scattered network of pharmacies and hospitals now administering doses.
While thousands of seniors in Florida are bleary eyed and angry after spending weeks trying unsuccessfully to get an appointment for a coronavirus vaccine, the former chairman and CEO of Time Warner told a national television audience on Friday that it was a breeze.
Richard Parsons, who is also a former chairman of Citigroup, said he left his home of New York to travel to Florida specifically because the Sunshine State made it so easy.
“It’s orderly and sensible,” the 72-year-old Parsons said while appearing on Squawk Box on CNBC. “I don’t know how Florida got the march on everyone else. But, you go online. You make an appointment. You get an appointment.”
From Michigan s biggest cities to its far rural areas, the state s most vulnerable populations in nursing homes and long-term care facilities are finally starting to get COVID-19 vaccines with officials hoping to see declines in the number of cases and deaths soon after both doses of the vaccines are administered to residents and staff.
For many, that day can t come fast enough.
It brings the hope of hugging a parent, spouse, daughter, son or grandchild. It brings the anticipation of simply touching and holding a friend s hand.
More than 29,000 coronavirus cases have been reported among nursing home residents and staff, with 3,683 residents (more than 28% of the state s 12,918 deaths) and 34 staff dying so far in the pandemic.

ST. LOUIS With nothing worse than an achy arm following her first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, SSM St. Mary s Hospital labor and delivery nurse Tiffany Ayulo was ready for round two.
“Actually my arm was not nearly as sore as the first time, but the other side effects were they were something else, she said. I expected to feel sick, I expected to have a headache and to possibly run a fever, and I did.
“We had been warned that the second dose was when people typically experience symptoms or side effects,” she said this based on the phase 3 trial studies indicating people more often feel side effects after their second doses of either vaccine.
