Archaeologists Have Discovered 110 Tombs From Three Different Eras of Ancient Egyptian History in the Nile Delta
Scholars are now trying to determine whether and how the people of one period absorbed the traditions of another.

Excavations at an ancient site in the Nile Delta have uncovered no less than 110 tombs dating from three different periods of ancient Egyptian history.
The find includes 68 oval-shaped tombs from the predynastic Buto Period (6000–3150 B.C.), 37 rectangular-shaped tombs from the Second Intermediate Period (1782–1570 B.C., also known as the era of Hyksos, a Semitic people that ruled Egypt at the time), and five oval-shaped tombs from the Naqada III period (3200–3000 B.C.), according to
The woman is believed to have been between 20 and 30 years old when she died and the fetus was between 26 and 30 weeks.
The mummy is believed to have been found in royal tombs in Thebes, an ancient Egyptian city along the Nile River, although the claim has not be proven, according to CNN.
The process of mummification usually entailed removing organs from the abdomen and chest, baffling researchers as to why the fetus wasn’t removed. We don t know why it was left there. Maybe there was a religious reason. Maybe they thought the unborn child didn t have a soul or that it would be safer in the next world. Or maybe it was because it was very difficult to remove a child at that stage from the womb without causing serious damage, Warsaw Mummy Project co-founder Wojtek Ejsmond told CNN.

With its dark walls and dimly-lit open rooms, the crypt-like Royal Mummies Hall at Cairo s new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization opened to visitors for the first time on Sunday, displaying 20 mummies of ancient Egyptian kings and queens.
The mummies were among 22 transferred earlier in April from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo to the NMEC in a remarkable parade.
The opening of the magnificent mummies hall coincided with International Day for Monuments and Sites, also known as World Heritage Day.
