Leighton State Bank Selects 2021 Teacher of the Year

Leighton State Bank has announced the winner of their fifth annual Teacher of the Year award. The award was presented to Cindy Dixson, a third-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary, on National Teacher Appreciation Day. Each year, Leighton State Bank solicits nominations for the award from the community. “This year, we received an outpouring of nominations from students and parents. Selecting the Teacher of the Year is one of the most enjoyable things that the LSB Leadership Team gets to do throughout the year, but also one of the most difficult,” said LSB Chief Operating Officer Joel Cornilsen. Dixson received the award with her students, several teachers, and Lincoln Elementary Principal Margaret Kirkwold present. The nominations, read to the group by Verna Ver Meer, VP of Human Resources & IT, praised Dixson’s ability to find creative ways to engage students in the classroom. McDonald s pays tribute to area s teachers | The Gazette-Democrat

Thu, 05/06/2021 - 10:16am admin Local McDonald’s restaurants are celebrating the area’s teachers by offering a free beverage of choice in the drive thru. The promotion began May 3 and continues through May 14. Participating McDonald’s in the Southern Illinois area include those in Anna, Carbondale and Vienna.  National Teacher Appreciation Day was May 4.  Local McDonald’s organizations thought it was important to extend the celebration of teachers beyond just one day.  Local McDonald’s owner/operator Brad Short says that supporting teachers is always a top priority. “McDonald’s has a long history of recognizing teachers as a key part of children’s lives,” Short said in a news release. 

Green Bay Catholic school teachers each receive $1,000 anonymous gift

A GRACE news release said the donor wants to remain anonymous and have the attention focused on the teachers, who worked in person at the schools throughout the year. The Catholic school system said it implemented several COVID-19 safety measures to prevent spread of the viral and potentially fatal disease. Jodi Sullivan, a first grade teacher at Holy Cross Catholic School, said teaching in-person during the pandemic was a challenge, but one the school system s teachers were ready for. We had to take so many things we do day in and day out and rethink those things, Sullivan said of measures taken to keep students safe.

Nets Censor Proof Teachers Unions Dictating Biden Reopen Policy

Font Size Earlier this year, the broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) defended President Biden from the obvious fact that he was beholden to Democratic special interests like the teachers’ unions, who were holding the welfare of students hostage by refusing to reopen schools. But over the weekend, the New York Post broke a major story that exposed how teachers’ unions were influencing Biden’s CDC on reopening policy. Of course, the networks helped to cover it up. According to The Post, “The American Federation of Teachers lobbied the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on, and even suggested language for, the federal agency’s school-reopening guidance released in February.”
