Fully vaccinated people 7 times less likely to get Covid: Asad

By News Desk ISLAMABAD: Planning Minister Asad Umar on Friday said people with both doses of a coronavirus jab are seven times less likely to get infected with the virus compared to those who are not vaccinated. “Even people who have received the first dose have a four times lower risk of the disease as compared unvaccinated people,” Umar said while addressing a media briefing here, along with Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan. Urging people to get vaccinated, the minister, who is also chairman of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said this was the only way to get rid of the disease.

Later, in a tweet, Mr Umar said: “The data analytics run by the ncoc team shows that comparative data of Pakistani’s who have been vaccinated versus those who are not vaccinated shows a marked difference in risk. The un vaccinated pakistani’s are at 7 times higher risk of getting covid. Please get vaccinated.”

Speaking to media in Islamabad, Dr Faisal said the last few weeks have seen an increase in Covid-19 cases, with the positivity rate going up from 2% to 4%. He also spoke about the rapid increase in the Delta variant of coronavirus cases after an increase in the Alpha variant. He said the main cause of this surge is violation of SOPs and the new variant of coronavirus coming from India.
