(Source: File) By Rachel Vadaj | February 19, 2021 at 12:13 AM EST - Updated February 19 at 12:13 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported 147,002 people filed for initial unemployment from Feb. 7-13 to the U.S. Department of Labor, which brings the total of unemployment claims filed in Ohio over the last 48 weeks to 2,563,344. To put that total into perspective, the total number of claims for the last 48 weeks is more than the combined total of unemployment claims filed over the last five years, according to ODJFS.

Ventura County offers job, financial assistance to residents facing employement issues during the pandemic VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - The Ventura County Workforce Development Board (WDB) secured multiple programs this year to help residents, both employed and unemployed, during the pandemic. The board was awarded a $315,000 grant by the State of California Employment Development Department to implement a National Dislocated Worker Grant for those struggling financially this year. The funding will aid Ventura County s response to COVID-19 by providing opportunities for employment and training services to individuals who are unemployed or underemployed as a result of the pandemic as well as those who are unlikely to return to their previous jobs.

Ooops!:( An error has occurred!   Ohio jobless claims for Dec. 6-12 reported Ohioans filed 38,327 initial jobless claims last week, according to statistics the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) reported to the U.S. Dept. of Labor Thursday. This was 235,888 fewer than – or about 14 percent of – the peak earlier this year. The total number of initial jobless claims filed in Ohio over the last 39 weeks (2,008,221) was more than the combined total of those filed during the last four years. Ohioans filed 274,658 continued jobless claims last week, which was 501,664 fewer than – or about 35 percent of – the peak earlier this year. That includes both traditional unemployment claims and claims for extended benefits. In addition, 262,514 Ohioans received Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) last week.
