As the summer approaches and the days get warmer, fire preparedness is very important. San Joaquin County residents are not new to wildfires, but if they were to happen, they can now be better prepared.
On Thursday, the American Red Cross Heart of The Valley Chapter will be hosting a virtual event from 6-7 p.m. with information on how to better prepare for the possibility of future local home fires, wildfires and other disasters.
The event will provide information including home fire safety checklist, home fire escape plans and earthquake safety checklist. Visual programs such as “Activate your Alarm, Save a Life” and “It’s Red Cross Ready” will be presented.

An intensifying drought is putting New Mexico’s forests in danger, and if conditions don t improve, state officials warn, the risk of insect outbreaks and catastrophic wildfires will increase.
The number of acres of forest and woodlands with insect, disease, and drought-stress damage on state and private lands increased 9% in 2020 from the year before, according to the state s 2020 Forest Health Conditions Report released last week.
“Climate directly influences forest health on multiple levels,” State Forester Laura McCarthy said in a news release. “Lack of rain, warming temperatures, and an increase in carbon dioxide continually alter our forest ecosystems, increasing the risk of insect outbreaks and catastrophic wildfire.”
New Mexico Wildfire Forces Residents from Homes as It Explodes in Size in Lincoln National Forest
The Weather Channel 3 hrs ago Ron Brackett
A wildfire that exploded in size Monday in the Lincoln National Forest in southern New Mexico has forced about 250 people to flee their homes.
Named the Three Rivers Fire, the blaze began Monday morning about a half-mile above the Three Rivers Campground in the White Mountains. It grew to 9.5 square miles by late Monday, according to KRQE, and was 0% contained.
It had spread almost to the Ski Apache resort and into the South Fork Canyon area.
The wildfire was being driven by steep terrain and extreme fire weather conditions, including gusty winds and low humidity levels, according to Laura Rabon, a public affairs officer with the Lincoln National Forest.
Firefighters work on a controlled burn Tuesday, April 20, at Eagle Ranch in Eagle. Controlled burns help mitigate fuels for later in the season and provide new opportunities for plant growth. Fire officials are bracing for another rugged season of wildfires after the historic fire season of 2020.
