ICC must investigate Geingob – LPM - Politics

JEMIMA BEUKES WINDHOEK The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) leader Bernadus Swartbooi has lodged a complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) demanding a fast-tracked investigation against President Hage Geingob for targeting the party as well as for the “heinous war crimes” of Lubango. Swartbooi informed the ICC that LPM was unable to access fair trials in the Namibian courts as justice in Namibia is reserved for Swapo, who with its functionaries allegedly controls the court system in the country. According to Swartbooi it is important that the ICC deal with Geingob’s investigation swiftly so that “further damage to the constitutional values, the sanctity of peace and development of society can be facilitated without delay or hindrance”.

Rift over booted Swapo party school members intensifies - Politics

24 May 2021 | Politics KENYA KAMBOWE RUNDU Whilst the Kavango East Swapo leadership is adamant that it will uphold the suspension of Swapo members from the Rundu Rural district from attending its party school, the ruling party’s school national leadership claims that due process was not followed as they treated the suspensions as a mere rumour. Namibian Sun early this month reported on how the Swapo Kavango East regional leadership had recalled the entire group of Swapo members from the Rundu Rural district who had been admitted to the party’s school. They apparently misbehaved and were described as ill-disciplined, a claim that the five affected students rejected.

Vilho ducks N$200 million questions - Government

RUNDU Defence minister Peter Vilho says he will not respond to accusations of corruption in the absence of any evidence. The Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement has accused the retired army general of lining his pockets at the expense of the defence ministry. AR leader Job Amupanda claimed Vilho sanctioned a N$200 million transfer from the defence ministry to its commercial arm, the August 26 Holding Company, in 2017 without treasury approval. Amupanda claimed to be in possession of a report in which the transaction is listed, which he refused to share with Namibian Sun. According to Amupanda, the report states that the defence ministry bought naval ships and military uniforms from Brazilian companies at inflated prices and without following tender procedures, during Vilho s term as executive director. In response, Vilho said if this report was an official one from the auditor-general, the current executive director should be able to respond to that.
