The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has welcomed officials from the Japanese embassy to discuss preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
NOCZ President Alfred Foloko and secretary general Boniface Kambikambi hosted the special visit on March 30.
The two officials greeted Arai Wakana, head of political affairs and coordination at the Embassy of Japan in Zambia.
Iwamura Naoki, the second secretary of public affairs and cultural section at the embassy, was also present at the meeting.
The NOCZ said the meeting saw both parties discuss their preparations for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.
The NOCZ officials offered their thanks to the Japanese Government for their ongoing efforts and plans for the Games, which are set to take place amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has appointed Prudence Nswana Hachitapika as its new officer for safe sport, in a move towards protecting athletes welfare.
This position aims to provide a direct contact for athletes if they have any issues of abuse or any form of misconduct that they would like to report. We want to ensure that athletes and officials have somewhere to go (when aggrieved) without feeling they are being undermined, said NOCZ secretary Boniface Kambikambi, who stated he hoped the new position could create a good environment for sportsmen and women.
BOXING legend Anthony Mwamba’s sister Charity gave a moving interview detailing the last moments of the former pugilist before he died at Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.
The sports fraternity in the country was yesterday greeted to shock news of Mwamba’s demise with a host of people paying their tributes.
Charity said Mwamba died upon arrival at Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital.
“Yesterday [Wednesday] he was rushed to the clinic after complaining that he is not feeling well, at the clinic they did some tests where they checked for malaria but it was not detected. In the morning, around 05; 00hrs, he called me saying ‘amaka yapwa [I am feeling weak]’ that is when I told the son that let us rush him to the hospital,” said Charity.

The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has called on all group training for Olympic hopefuls in the country to be halted to guard against athletes contracting and spreading COVID-19. NOCZ is urging you all to suspend group Training activities for Olympic Games bound athletes and all those in contention for Olympic Games slots for at least 2 weeks, NOCZ President Alfred Foloko wrote in a letter sent to all federations affiliated with the National Olympic Committee.
The NOCZ instructions are based on our desire to protect the health and safety of our athletes and the community, Foloko explained.
