Road March a win for the people

Soca artiste Farmer Nappy - AYANNA KINSALE Darryl “Farmer Nappy” Henry has won the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO) and bmobile’s online Road March competition in a year of no march on the road. And for him, it is a win for the people. Besides winning the online Road March, he also won the Soca Monarch with a prize of $150,000. Carnival 2021 was cancelled because of the covid19 pandemic. He was presented with his $100,000 prize at a ceremony at the TSTT suite, Queen’s Park Oval, Tragarete Road, Port of Spain on Wednesday. But not Jules Sobion aka Julius CZAR. For the entrepreneur and CEO/Commander-In-Chief of regional promotional entity Caesar’s Army, the cancellation was an opportunity for evolution. And nowhere is that evolution more evident than in his foray into executive producing a theatre production. That production is CZAR and the Mas Movement presents MAS: Magic + Spirit on Carnival Monday and Tuesday which is being held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port of Spain.

What was considered an unusual competition setting for this type of event, Farmer Nappy along with ten other competitors performed without an audience at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, Port of Spain, in a pre-recorded final that aired on TV6 on Friday night.

Rodriguez is the lead actor in the MAS. - CZAR and the Mas Movement presents MAS on Carnival Monday and Tuesday – February 15, 16 – at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port of Spain. Unlike the many Carnival events hosted by Jules Sobion, aka Julius CZAR, this production calls for the renewal of the Carnival spirit. “One positive thing about not having an official festival this year was I was able to explore and discover my Carnival roots,” said Sobion, executive producer of the play, in a release on Friday. Although the play is not about me, it speaks to me, allowing me the opportunity to pay homage to the foundation and celebrate the Carnival Trinity – calypso, pan and mas.”
