The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art recently announced the winners of its High School Juried Art Exhibition, and all of the winners hailed from the Shawnee area.
Winners were:
• First place: Tragan Goodnight, Bethel High School, oil painting “Lost Flower Boy”
• Second place: Leah Fisher, North Rock Creek High School, digital artwork “Marinette”
• Third place: Journey Wilson, Bethel High School, woodcut print “Cowlick”
“I am so thankful for the opportunity of having my art shown in the Mabee-Gerrer Museum, just having my pieces being shown was cool enough,” Howell said. “When I got the news that I got best of show I almost didn t believe it and once it hit me I started jumping up and down! Being recognized for your art and all the time, hours, and days you put into my art feels so good. It s a feeling that I will never forget!”

The Oklahoma-made movie Minari continued its strong awards season run this morning as the 2021 Oscar nominations were announced this morning. Minari, which was filmed in Tulsa in 2019, has been nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture, and a history-making best actor nod for Steven Yeun, who becomes the first Asian-American ever nominated for a best actor Oscar.
Writer-director Lee Isaac Chung, who loosely based Minari on his own childhood, earned nods for best director and best original screenplay when Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas revealed the nominations this morning. Plus, Youn Yuh-jung is nominated for best supporting actress and Emile Mosseri for best original score.
I have yet to meet a person that has watched Paramount s Yellowstone that hasn t raved about it. I admit that I m a little late to the party, but in my defense, I didn t have access to Paramount on my television provider. I even went as far as buying Season 1 and Season 2 on DVD so I could catch up before I watched Season 3.

The show is about cowboys, ranchers more specifically, with sweeping landscapes and what I believe is some of the more realistic portrayals of ranch life. It s no wonder that a show of this magnitude could win an award from the National Cowboy Museum.
