HOEVEN & BALDWIN INTRODUCE BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION TO ALLEVIATE FEED SHORTAGES

WASHINGTON – Senators John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) have introduced the Feed Emergency Enhancement During Disasters with Cover Crops (FEEDD) Act, bipartisan legislation to provide farmers and ranchers additional flexibility to alleviate feed shortages in years with widespread excessive moisture, flooding or drought. Specifically, the bill would:
Create an emergency waiver authority for the Secretary of Agriculture to allow for haying, grazing or chopping of a cover crop on prevented plant acres before November 1 in the event of a feed shortage due to excessive moisture, flood or drought.

Specifically, the bill would:

Under this waiver, producers would not see a reduction of their crop insurance indemnity.
Direct the Secretary to establish regional haying and grazing dates for each crop year.

MONTPELIER â Mining employees, cattlemen and beef producers, Lyft taxi ride drivers, postal workers and massage therapists are among 56 statewide or national groups that have petitioned Gov. Phil Scott to provide them priority status during Vermontâs COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
The list also includes some education groups like the National Education Association and Vermont State College faculty that has been asking in recent months that Vermont teachers be given a top priority ranking.
Some grocery store related associations and some private employers, like the Healthy Living Market petitioned for their frontline employees to get the shots.

Newly confirmed US Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack.
WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Senate on Tuesday voted 92-7 to confirm former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack as secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Vilsack is returning to the department after leading the USDA under the Obama administration for eight years. He also served as governor of Iowa from 1999 to 2007.
Not all members of the Senate’s Democratic caucus supported the appointment. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont voted against Vilsack’s confirmation, saying he has concerns about some of the nominee’s policies.
