Credit: ThinkStock Author: City News Service Updated: 3:22 PM PDT August 3, 2021 SAN DIEGO A group of Sumatran tigers at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is suspected to have been exposed to the virus that causes COVID- 19, prompting the closure of that park s Tiger Trail habitat, zoo officials said Tuesday. Some of the tigers have had a cough, and an in-house SARS-CoV2 PCR test yielded a positive test result from fecal samples. Zoo veterinarians are awaiting confirmation of the test results by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory.

This marks the first positive detection of the disease in each county. Image/skeeze via pixabay An epidemiological investigation found that both deer breeding facilities had received deer from the Uvalde County premises confirmed positive with CWD on March 29, 2021. Postmortem tissue samples were submitted by the permitted deer breeders to assist Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) with the epidemiological investigation. The National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NVSL) in Ames, Iowa, has since confirmed CWD in those tissue samples.
