New York lawmakers put the finishing touches on a piece of legislation mandating extensive new workplace health and safety protections in response to the COVID crisis. The New York Health and Essential Rights Act, or NY HERO Act, sponsored by state Sen. Michael Gianaris (D- Queens) and Assemblywoman Karines Reyes (D- Bronx), calls for fines against businesses that fail to adopt and enact new standards to protect workers and stem the spread of coronavirus or other airborne diseases.

Small biz optimism is up but sales and hiring are slumping A new report finds small business optimism is on the rise but many smaller firms in the Garden State continue to struggle to make a profit and find enough workers to hire. Eileen Kean, the state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, known as NFIB, said the new NFIB Small Business Optimism Index rose 2.4 points last month, to 98.2, the first return to the average historical reading since November. “We know how important optimism is because that’s what keeps the small store owners working hard and doing the best to keep their establishments moving forward so profits can be obtained, she said.

Doug Mastriano is much more than just a Pennsylvania senator

Doug Mastriano is a powerhouse.  There is no other word.   HIs list of accomplishments reads like who’s who among American heroes.  And that is just the beginning.   U.S. Army Colonel Doug Mastriano is a combat veteran.  He served at the Iron Curtain in West Germany and along the East German and Czechoslovakian borders.  He was deployed to Iraq for Operation Desert Storm to liberate Kuwait.  His regiment led the attack against Saddam’s elite Republican Guard forces. Colonel Doug Mastriano was the lead planner for the operation to invade Iraq via Turkey.  He served four years with NATO and deployed three times to Afghanistan.  He was the director of NATO’s Joint Intelligence Center in Afghanistan, leading 80 people from 18 nations.  Most inspiring was his leading of seven relief operations to help Afghan orphans.
