Pennsylvania’s minimum wage has rested at $7.25 an hour since 2009, when the last of a series of federal increases kicked in. Since that time, state officials have fielded many calls to raise the state’s minimum wage, but the rate has remained the same. Gov. Tom Wolf has been one of the loudest advocates in the state for raising the wage, repeatedly calling for state lawmakers to increase the minimum wage immediately to $12 an hour, with yearly, phased-in increases to $15.
The closest Wolf came to increasing the state’s $7.25 minimum wage was in 2019, when he and Senate Republican leaders agreed to raise it to $9.50 in exchange for Wolf dropping a plan to expand overtime eligibility for salaried employees. WASHINGTON U.S. jobs growth for April was far lower than what the market had predicted, adding to worries that excessive stimulus payments could have undesirable side effects in the long term, making the road to recovery rocky.
The April jobs report was the biggest miss on record. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. economy added 266,000 jobs last month versus an estimate of 1 million. The unemployment rate rose to 6.1 percent from 6.0 percent in March.
Some economists believe that the path to full employment could be much longer than expected.
Miller receives State Farm award
State Farm Agent Jon Miller has received the companyâs prestigious Chairmanâs Circle award for his Helena office, an honor given to 3% of more than 19,000 State Farm agents nationwide.
This award honors agents who align their business with the long-term direction of the company and who act as advocates for their customers.
Miller, a Helena resident, has been with State Farm for 12 years and is in his sixth year as an agent. He comes from a family with six agents and three team members and previously worked in his brotherâs State Farm agency. He also trained in offices in Helena and Bozeman before becoming an agent. Miller has received Honor Club and Ambassador awards and this is his first year qualifying for the Chairmanâs Circle award.
