HOUSTON (AP) - A facility in Houston that housed girls who crossed U.S. border unaccompanied is being closed and the girls immediately moved, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said Saturday.
About 450 girls housed since April 1 in an Emergency Intake Site for Unaccompanied Children operated by the National Association of Christian Churches near Bush Intercontinental Airport were being moved.
“The NACC Houston EIS and other Emergency Intake Sites are intended for use as a temporary measure,” HHS said in a statement.

About 100 unaccompanied migrant children arrived at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Emergency Intake Site on Saturday, the first group to be sheltered at the facility.
The site, which was announced in March, is part of an effort from the Biden administration to move migrant children out of U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities.

The site will provide shelter for 13 to 17-year-old boys and can hold up to 372 beds, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families.

HOUSTON The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said they are working on transferring all of the unaccompanied minors being housed at Houston s emergency shelter.
The National Association of Christian Churches site, which was only intended for temporary measures, housed 450 young girls. Those children are now in the process of being unified with suitable sponsors or being transferred to another HHS facility that is housing unaccompanied minors.
Around 450 unaccompanied teen migrant girls relocated from a Houston housing facility Saturday and authorities have reportedly not offered much information about the closure.
