Kathy Silverberg What a difference a year makes. It seems like Memorial Day 2020 was a long time ago. It was the year when there were no parades, no neighborhood cookouts and no concerts in the park in remembrance of those who have given their lives in service to our country. Instead this nation and the world spent the spring of 2020 coming to grips with the repercussions of a pandemic the likes of which had not been seen for more than a century. And if that weren’t enough, the social unrest brought on by the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis a year ago this week, a contentious presidential election and the assault on the Capitol on Jan. 6, the past 15 months have represented one of the most difficult periods in this nation’s history.
