McCarthy and other lawmakers and officers met at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor the “incredible work our men and women in blue do.”
Ms. Ferranto had a reminder that the coronavirus pandemic remains a factor for all officers; there have been 182 confirmed deaths within the ranks due to the virus in 2020, she said, with more expected.
“While we were all at home, adjusting to a new normal, the lives of our law enforcement didn’t change. They had no time or choice but to dive right in. No officers sat in their car saying they can’t go in because of COVID,” Ms. Ferranto told Mr. McCarthy.
“Let these men and women know when you see them that you appreciate what they do and the sacrifices they have made to keep our communities safe. We would not be living in this country as it is today without them,” she advised.
JANESVILLE
The sacrifices of the men and women who swear oaths to protect Rock County were recognized Tuesday during a ceremony in Janesville that honored all county law enforcement, marking the first time the event had been held since 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ceremony was held at the Roth Pavilion in Janesville s Lower Courthouse Park during National Police Week. The event paid special tribute to law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. The event featured the Rock County combined honor guard and musical selections by Kellie Pearson and Elaine McDonald.

Every year, police from around the Rio Grande Valley and across the country gather to honor their fallen brothers and sisters during National Police Week.
Last year, the pandemic forced a small celebration.
This year, the Brownsville Police Department – along with local, state and federal agencies – came together to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Today s so important because we have always vowed to never forget our fallen heroes,” Brownsville police Chief Felix Sauceda said. Never did we expect to be hit by an invisible enemy such as COVID. Several of the deaths that have been accounted for are due to COVID.
