SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Dozens of law enforcement officers from across the Suncoast gathered Tuesday morning outside the Sarasota County Justice Academy to pay their respects to officers who died in the line of duty in the last year.
”No matter what uniform we wear, whether we’re at the state level or local level, that we’re all the same police officers, deputy sheriffs, we’re there to protect the community and do everything what it takes,” said Sarasota County Schools Chief of Police Timothy Enos.

Stockton police released a statement Tuesday night offering more details regarding the shooting that occurred Tuesday morning on La Cresta Way, killing Officer Jimmy Inn and suspect Lance Lowe, both 30. The 8-year-old boy who was reportedly being strangled by the suspect has been medically cleared and released to his mother, police said; the female domestic violence victim “walked away from the scene” and authorities say they are still trying to make contact with her.

“This morning, at 9:45 a.m., the Stockton Police Telecommunications Center received a call of a disturbance in the 4400 block of La Cresta Way. The caller reported hearing screaming, saw a woman with a ripped shirt who was bleeding, and appeared to have been assaulted.

This week, as National Police Week continues through Saturday, the Shawnee Police Department is honoring officers who have died protecting their community as well as those who continue to serve and protect.
This week is a time to reflect and show gratitude,
“I am very proud of our Shawnee Police officers and the other law enforcement agencies in our area, Shawnee Police Chief Mason Wilson said. We honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty,” he said. “This is also a week to honor the brave men and women still working to protect and serve our communities.
