Monday marks 26 years since the murder of Albertville police detective Andrew Whitten.
On Jan. 25, 1995, Whitten died after being shot inside his own home. Since his death, the three suspects charged have spent years in jail.

Officer Hector Moya was 55. He served with the Newark police for more than two decades.
“The City of Newark deeply grieves the loss of this beloved 22-year police veteran,” Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka said in a statement. “Officer Moya served our communities with honor, distinction and excellence. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Officer Moya’s family.”
Grieving fellow officers escorted Moya’s body from the hospital to a funeral home with a final salute. Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said Moya was the seventh city police officer lost to the pandemic.
COVID-19 was the biggest line-of-duty killer of law enforcement officers in 2020 across New Jersey and the nation, according to figures released by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
