The legislation, which was excluded from the last two pandemic relief packages, would allow creators to deduct 100% of recording expenses in the first year.
The Help Independent Tracks Succeed (HITS) Act has gotten a second life in Congress.
On Tuesday (March 16), all four original sponsors of the bill Reps.
Linda Sánchez (D-CA) and
Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and
Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) reintroduced the long-simmering legislation, which would allow musicians, technicians and producers to deduct 100% of recording expenses up to $150,000 on their taxes in the year they re incurred. The bill is fundamentally unchanged from its previous incarnations (introduced July 31 in the House, and the companion bill in the Senate on Dec. 3), which failed to pass as part of the last two pandemic relief packages despite intense lobbying from independent music advocates to have it included.

Music venues & live event industry offer vaccine aid in letter to Biden
The National Independent Venue Association, aka NIVA, has teamed up with live event producers and other industry groups, including
Live Nation, AEG, We Make Events, The Broadway League, National Independent Talent Organization, and more, to offer their venues and staff to President

It s not a new idea Coachella producers Goldenvoice have been in talks with Riverside County, CA to create a mass vaccination site and with event workers continuing to weather the industry shutdown, with no new work on the horizon, their experience in setting up spaces and managing crowds of people could be a major boon to the vaccine effort.

One of the industries hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic is offering to help get the public vaccinated.
A number of leaders in the music industry have sent a letter to President Biden outlining how they could provide much-needed spaces to aid in the rollout of the vaccine. They say their industry is uniquely suited to help with this effort: These vaccines are our best chance at putting COVID-19 behind us, and our experiences organizing events and managing crowds now put us in the unique position of being the best prepared and most qualified industry to support the vaccination effort and get this country on the road to recovery.
