Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga that Sri Lanka is expected to be gradually opened for foreign travellers from next January. He added that this step will be taken in line with health guidelines issued.
Prior to the country being opened, a regulatory programme is planned to be implemented from January to identify the shortcomings in the tourism industry and to rectify them in accordance with health guidelines.
The subject minister stated that the discussion in this regard is currently underway with the relevant parties over the opening of the airport as well as the opening of the country to foreign travellers. He noted that the programme will be launched, once the discussions are concluded.

Addressing the media, Government Medical Officers Association Editor Haritha Aluthge stated that in comparison with the rest of the world, the risk of coronavirus in Sri Lanka is rising.
National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak stated that from the 655 patients identified yesterday (13), 444 patients were identified from the Colombo District, which is the highest group of COVID patients reported from a District.
From the Gampaha District, 75 patients were identified, while 41 patients were identified from the Ampara District and 19 patients were identified from the Kalutara District.
The Government Information Department stated that the remaining 90 patients were identified from the rest of the country.
